(1) where do I get a clutch bit for the bed, I need one you can use a 3/8 drive rachet on, (2) where is the best cheapest place to get parts. Also I would like to hear from people who have used mustang II front suspension, with a crossmemebr. I would also like to sell the motor I took out of the truck, it is a 1954, and transmission. For your question 1, search the "Tool Chest" forum.
Question 2: There is no one "cheapest" place to get parts. One place will be high on one part and low on the next. Click the "links" link at the top of the page to find suppliers. Most have on-line catalogs you can compare. American Classic, which has the flashing sign at the top of the page, sponsors this site so it would be nice to do business with them.
Someone with experience will be along to help with question 3.
To sell the engine, list it in the "Swapmeet" section.
Also, people will be along shortly urging you to show pictures of your truck. Please post links to them rather than images. Thanks.

For the parts question, take it one part at a time. Most parts you will need you will get from different places. There are simply 100s of suppliers sitting out there waiting to take your money.
Go to the search section at the top of the page and list the part you want. You will find a bunch of posts concerning that particular part and someone's recommendation of where or where not to buy it.
Also this forum has a section for selling and buying parts, check it out. Then there's always eBay and the bone yard. Have fun, it's a great trip.

I've used American Classic Parts and Classic Parts of America and had real good luck with both. Also used a lot of others. You can get those clutch head bits at any of the parts places, maybe even NAPA could get them for you. I have a Mustang II in my '49 and the best advice I can give is to get a real good one! I got one made by a local rod shop and have had nothing but trouble. Fatmans, Heidt or RB's Obsolete parts have real good crossmember kits. When I redo mine it will be one of those.

He bought it 20 years ago with the intentions of restoring it when he got time. He said he drove it in the drive way shut off and hasn't touched it since. It's rough. First pull all the spark plugs and pour about 4-6 ounces of diesel fuel into the holes, then walk away for a week. Then come back and do it again. At the end of the second week put in a 6V battery(making sure all the connections are clean) and turn the engine over without the plugs for a couple of seconds, then reinstall the plugs and try it again, with a remote fuel supply gravity fed to the carburetor. Let us know how that works; we're interested.

I went with the aftermarket version,TCI,and if I ever do another one I will go the same way.Subframe is Ok,but when you figure in rebuilding the unit you are putting in,there aint a heck of a lot of difference money wise.If you are planning on modifying your truck,you will soon find out it is an expensive proposition.But then when you finally get it up and running,you will feel it was all worth it. | | |
