Howdy, this might be a simple question but I have a 57 235 with a bad fuel pump.Looked into replacement or rebuild but Im on a no cash flow system,I have heard that you can replace it with a newer 6 cyl.pump? The cost difference is alot and Im not too worried about orginality.I just want to get it running! Thanks Al

Al,

AutoZone sells a fuel pump for $25. NAPA is a few dollars more. Advance Auto is under $23, if you use the 10% discount.

By the way, I'm in Schodack, right outside of Castleton.

You might think about a dual action pump if you have vacuum wipers. ron

A dual-action fuel pump is very nice but it would at least triple the cost (1957 pump), just for the pump. Then, there would also be the cost and enjoyment of running the two additional vacuum lines. eek

Put an add in the Swap Meet if you would be interested in a used dual-action fuel pump. I know that someone will have one for sale. Most likely you'll get no guarantee and the price would be at least as much as a new regular fuel pump (with warranty). :hammering:

I don't have an exact pressure figure but mechanical pumps don't put out a lot of pressure. I put a "late model" pump on my 38 & it worked OK on my 216.

Al,

I have used one from Autozone with no problems. Most likely they match the pressure of original pumps.
