During our vacation, I happened upon a 1950 Chev Woodie, built on a 3100 platform. It was in a place called "Classic Convertibles" in Freeport Maine. Here is a link to some photos I took. What is really interesting are the two photos showing the documentation by the original wood body builder.

Enjoy!

Man, I'm glad I wasn't there with you; I would have spent my retirement on that baby. What were they asking for it? No, don't tell me... :hammering:

That Campbell Station Wagon conversion is beautiful, rare, and valuable.

They were not really Suburban conversions because they started with the 3x12 (Chassis w/Windshield Cowl (no cab)) - 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 2 ton models (8 to 18 passengers). This can be seen in the documentation - it's nice and uncommon to see the documentation.

Wow.

Tim,
thanks for that clarification. It looks to me like the seats are Suburban seats or very close to it. I thought the documents were very intriguing.

Just for fun I looked up the "Classic Convertible" website and found out the 1950 Chevy Highlander has been *SOLD*.
No price was listed.

I keep hoping that someone around here will want to convert an Art Deco or Advance Design to a woodie. That would be my idea of a 'dream thread'.
I'm not quite ready to try that myself but I keep coming back to that same idea. It seems like l've visited nearly every wooden bodied vehicle site there is over the last couple of years.

Anyone else thinking of turning their bolt into a woodie?

If you're not familiar with the 'oldwoodies' site, here are some more woodies on truck platforms. Enjoy.

I think the selling price was $67K but I might be wrong on that. Everything looked really nice except for the radio!
