Hello all, I was directed over here from the 67-72 pickups forum with a question. This truck has been stored in the barn at my grandparent's house for a number of years, was taken off the road about 10 years ago. Believe it to be a 63 or 64 model. Just trying to accumulate as much information about the truck as I can.

It's an aluminum body (Grumman-Olson) stovebolt 6 truck with a 4 speed, still starts right up but the fuel lines need replaced.

Hi jjorgensen52,

Welcome to The Stovebolt! I can't help you with your inquiry but I am sure somebody will pipe in with some knowledge about your step van. You say it has a stovebolt 6 in it? It reminds me of a milk delivery truck. It sure is in nice condition and would be fun to restore. Good to have you on board!

Looks like it could be a fun van for the flea market or camping. The engine would be a 230/250/292, measure the height of the side covers behind the distributor, if 6" high it's a 292, if 4" 230/250. IF 230/250 have to check the number on the distributor pad to determine which one. The transmission is probably a SM420 if 4 speed. I'm guessing the wheels are eight lug, so check this thread to find out gear ratio.

Most of your mechanical questions will get answers fairly easy, bt not many of those old vans around. I'd love to fall into one, neat.

Welcome aboard

Larry

What is it GMC or Chevy??
If it is a Chevy it is a Chevrolet model #3742 3/4ton. Is a 125 1/4 wheelbase.
Or the 1ton is a model # 3942 with a 137” wheelbase forward control chassis
If it is a GMC it is a PM 152-

Thanks for all the quick replies, folks.
I know for a fact the truck was a chevy originally. I also believe it to be the 125" wheelbase, but I am going to be there this weekend so I can check that out. I have a few more pictures I will post up some time tonight for anyone interested.

Okay, got out of classes early for lunch, so here are the other pictures. The truck is currently being used as a rolling toolbox, so pardon the clutter wink . Otherwise, also remembered that the trans and motor in the truck are not the originals, but are from another truck of this vintage (my grandfather owned 3 or 4 of these at one time eek )

Not sure about the box length, I will check that, the rear axle and the motor / tranny this weekend.

So here is what I found this weekend:

The truck itself is on a 125" wheelbase with a 10 foot box, according to the GVW plate I found it's rated at 7000lbs. It also has a 2 piece drive shaft.

I was only able to find one marking on the rearend, ML918.

The trans is a four speed, but outside that I was unable to verify anything. It is a very short box and it has a full cast iron bell housing.

The motor, as I said before is not original, but the side of the block has "348675 GM" cast on it in raised letters
