Hi everyone, my father and I just got a 1949 3/4 ton Chevy last week that we want to restore/modify. I plan on getting the shop manual and the assembly manual for the truck. Are there any other books anyone would suggest? Are any of the Chevy truck resto books out there any good? I'm looking for specific info for these modles of trucks, not just resto info that applies to all cars and trucks of any year.

Thanks, Kevin.

John Gunnell wrote a book, "Chevrolet Pickups 1946-1972:, published in '88 by MBI Publishing with lots of pics and specific year-to-year information on changes. For example, a '49 pickup, model designation 3604, had a max GVW of 5,800lb., shipping weight was 3,520 and the 'delivery price' was $1,372.

Have a question send us a pic. Someone will answer it. Its that simple. Now I'm not saying that books are bad but trust me they don't have nearly the info in them that one would want to know. Tips tricks and trade secrets thats what you will find here. And it will make life easier.

Thanks for the help.

Delux that link is great. Ton of good info there. After about two minutes on that site I was able to ID my engine. Its a 1954 235cid 125hp engine originaly backed by a powerglide, now its got a 3 speed behind it. The head on the engine is a 1953 235 head however.
