For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 293 | The rear axle on my '49 chevy 1/2-ton mounts to the leaf springs on "pivot" connections between the axle and spring. The pivot connection includes a large rubber washer on each side of the pivot pin (approx. 2-inch O.D). I can't find replacement washers in any of the on-line parts catalogs. Am I looking in the wrong place, or is something like this normally homemade from a stock rubber pad? Thanks! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 595 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 595 | contact eaton spring heard they carry lots of that type of hardware | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 769 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 769 | http://166.82.96.3/homeframes.html Go the the link above and enter the information for your truck in the online catalog. You should see the pivot about 25 items from the top. Is this the item you are looking for? It is the axle pivot. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 16 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 16 | I went through this on my '57 and ended up using aftermarket polyurethane. Only took a couple of years for them to thoroughly disintegrate so I recently had a fabrication shop make me some out of 7075 Aluminum round. The spring eye ID was 1.0625" and the OD 1.5". I found two 1' pieces of 1.07" and 1.57" round stock on eBay at a decent price, had the fab shop cut them to length (smaller diameter as the spring eye bushing, larger as washers to hold the bushing in as shackle spacers)and had 7/16" holes drilled in all. Cost was under $50. Not stock but painted black you can't tell the difference and it'll be a long time before I have to replace them, if ever. Bronze bushings used to be standard spring eye bushings on real old pieces. | | |
