I put the new rubber instead of the old foam style which is supposed to hold moisture. These came from Jim Carter and I thought he sold the Steele product line. Anyone else had this problem? maybe I should just put the old foam style in? :confused:

I pressed on it several times, and it seems to be getting closer to flush with the truck side. I've given up trying to get everything perfect. This is one of them. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 321 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 321 | i put a new rubber seal in my 50 and it definitely was thicker than the the original, but i loosened the nuts on the lever/door connection, pushed the door shut and retightened the nuts once the door was as flush as i could get it.
it is not absolutely flush with the body but it is pretty close and is at least the even all the way around.
the foam compresses better but it does not seem to seal as well as the rubber does (if you can get a uniform contact around the entire perimeter). | | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 322 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 322 | It closed flush before I replaced the seal and now it is not even close. I can't even get it to stay closed....the handle on the inside won't "lock".
Dumb question...the handle to the inside bolt's to the bottom of the hinge right?

People have reported different opinions and experiences regarding Steele rubber parts being sold by various vendors. Two things seem to be certain: Steele always sells Steele parts - they seem to be the best parts and the most expensive parts. If any other vendor sells Steele parts, I would bet that all their rubber parts do not come from Steele and I would bet that you cannot count on any particular part always coming from Steele. I have bought many rubber parts from Jim Carter and have never been able to identify one coming from Steele (thought this would be a clever marketing trick). In fact, JC's rubber parts have often been of inferior quality or incorrectly shaped. I have the vent & mechanism, but what holds it all in place inside the recess of the cab? It would seem the vent need to be held in place and or pivot off something, that perhaps I am missing?
