The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk V-butt or Stainless Trim?

I guess I need some opinions.
I would like to v-butt glue the windshield in my '53 as to eliminate the 'split windshield look'. However I have the full set of original stainless trim. If I remove the center windshield one, that means the rest of the front ones must go aswell as the ends won't be covered. Does that means the side ones will look out of place?

I like the center devided look... but it is not my truck.

I like the center split look. That is how it was designed and that's how I expect a AD pickup to look. But as always, it's your truck.

I like the look of the V butt, but it must be done just right,or it will leak.Just my opinion.

They now have a 1 pc window bent for your truck ...with trim ....just have to cut out center bar

Go with the split window. The V butt looks out of place to me on anything other than show vehicles.

If you cut a couple small pc's from a donor strip you could probably bridge the center part and keep the trim.

I agree with Curt. That's exactly how I intend to rig mine up.

With the rocks flying on the road these days, what ever you do make sure you can replace what you've done without a hassle and no leaks.
Personally I prefer a sleeper with nothing showing but the lope of the cam.

I think the v-butt looks good BUT that is where I mount my Fulton at also. Just thinking about the future. Good luck and remember it's your truck! Have fun

I think it's about 50-50, so I would go with the simplest way on mine.I'm using the center chrome .It will also be cheaper and simpler when one side gets a rock.

I am building my 48 at an old hot rod. And I am soooooo looking forward to driving a car WITHOUT powersteering, powerwindows, automatic, powerwindows,A/C, and on and on. There is NO WAY I would run a one piece or the butted glass. THAT, along with the cowl vent, the swinging door handles and what not is what MAKES the truck. Without all that old stuff, what do you have?

Right on Brian, my fave is the vacuum wipers.I love driving in the rain and freaking out my wife by stomping on it in the rain.lol We get a lot of rain here in BC.Who owns that mint 55-57 red/white optioned out truck in Salsalito? Nothing wrong with throwing a few chrome options into the mix,eh?

Lothar, I haven't driven this truck in about ten years. I had rebuilt the wiper motor using an NOS rebuild kit I bought on Hemmings (Before the net ) and it worked like a charm. I can't wait to hear it again. Pssssss..thmp....Pssssssss..thmp...Psssssss..thmp.

I haven't driven a 50's vehicle since1980, family priority,dad come last.But hopefully by the new year I'll be into something cool. lol
