I have a 60 gmc with the steel framed side windows. I have a broken one and a new piece of glass from the bone yard. I have unscrewed it from the trac but I can't figure out how to remove it. Do I need to remove the wing window and if so how do I do that? Thanks

The wind window rests in a triangular frame with a leg down into the door shell. At the bottom of this leg there are two screws that hold this piece in place. Additionally, along the front edge of the door shell, there are three or four screws that secure the wing window frame into the door shell. All of this said, I don't think you have to remove the wing window frame to replace the wing window glass. You will need some new setting tape, in order to secure the new glass.

Try:

www.classicparts.com
www.lmctruck.com
www.bowtiebits.com
www.oldchevytrucks.com

These manufacturers, among others, carry the setting tape and other door weatherstrip, runners, seals and bumpers.

Good luck with your project and I hope this information is helpful.

Tony

Thanks for the reply. Im trying to replace the side glass not the wing window glass. And physically I cant seem to get the glass out of the door shell after removing the two screws.

Ya gotta pull the wing window assembly out before the side glass will come out.

I have a manuel for 1960 if you are still in need for the directions I can e- mail them if needed.

Looks like 6 screws holding in wing window.Wing must be removed for window to come out.

By the time you get this you probably already have the new one in. They are right. Take the door handle and window crank off. Take the inner door panel off. Underneath you will find 2 clutchhead screws that hold the bottom of the vent window lower brace on. Then there are 2 phillips screws on the upper front edge of the door shell and 2 screws on the top of the door shell. Roll the window up and just loosen the 2 screws that hold the window on the track. Now roll the window down all the way. This will give you enough romm, (barely) to gently pry the vent window loose and lower it. Then you need to slowly pull it up. There is just enough room for the vent window to come out. Then the main glass is simple once you roll it up take the 2 loose screws out (without dropping it in the door) and remove it. Sorry so late and long.

You're welcome. When I did our 61 Apache i had the good fortune of having to figure it out on my own. I was not a Stovebolt member yet. I have learned so much from this group. It is very tedious getting the wing vent out. But it must be removed to get the side window out. If you notice there is a slight indention or grove on the top inner shell at the location that the bar goes down in the door. This bar actually serves two purposes, one to support the vent window and the main purpose is the front track or groove the window slides up and down in. Less chance of damage if you pull it straight up thru this grove. remove it on the inside of the door, not towards the outside. Good luck. Again your probably done by now.
