They told me I'd have to cut the rivits out of my bumpers to separate the pieces. They say the parts have to be separated to chrome properly. When I get them back, I'd have to bolt them back together. Is this typical of a chroming process? What type of bolts do you guys use for this?

If the rivets aren't readily visible when the bumper is mounted on the car you can use any bolt you wish. I'd probably use stainless if it were my car. If you choose to use stainless be sure to put anti-sieze on the threads.
