hello out there i need a little help with my wipers. I have a 49 3100 with a 350. the paint job is almost done and I was getting ready to start shopping around for the interior when I realized I have no wipers. I look at the box of parts I got from the guy i bought the truck from there are two arms but one of them is missing little arm the holds the actual wiper blade. can anybody send me a picture or something and recomend a electric wiper motor.. thanks in advance

This has come up before. The electric unit commonly used is made, I believe, by Newport. It bolts right in--the only thing is , it's larger than the old vacuum unit, and partially blocks off the hole where the switch was. So you have to relocate the switch. Other than that, the unit itself works great!

Does the Newport unit come complete with arms?

You can get the transmission arms for the wipers at Classic parts or most any other parts place. RBs Obsolete parts has a good set of wiper arms and modern style blades. I got a set of them and they work a whole lot better that the original reproduction ones. Since you're not going original, the electric ones are the way to go. The unit bolts right in where the original went, easy as can be. But Rich is right. You have to relocate the switch. I put mine in the hole where the original ignition switch went. Used a 3/4" elecrical knockout seal with a hole drilled in the middle to hold the switch itself. The setup works great.

No,the newport electric motor does'nt come with the arms.You will have to relocate the switch like mentioned above.The newport motor runs like a dream,one of the best upgrades i have made to my truck.

I used the bracket off of a reostat heater switch.I had to weld the hole up in the bracket,then i cut the hole to fit the wiper switch.I mounted my switch on the lower edge of the dash,using the set screw on the bracket.

I had a nightmare of a time finding the correct wiper arms after installing an electric wiper unit in my truck (4 years ago) and finally found the right ones via RB's Auto.

My newport wiper motor bolted in with no problems.The wiper arms fit like a glove.The only hard part about it,there is little room to work.I removed the speaker grille in the dash to help access the wiper motor.
