For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 38 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 38 | I just picked up a 65 C30 it has a stright 6 but not sure which the 65 manual says that if it is green then a 292 well it looks green but would like to find a number on the block to confirm this. Numbers I found are F1120B just above the disreibuter, CON 2 J 10 3 on the rear of the right side of block 3850817 GM 14 on the center of the right side of block. On the intake manifold 3859381 GM12 and also on the intake man near the fire wall D195. There is a number on the head but having some trouble reading it maybe 488381F. The truck runs well I drove it home about 70 miles body needs the usual patches rockers, cab floor bottom of hood and paint, only complaint is the dash was cut to fit in a modern radio but if I remove the radio it looks like a delete plate will cover it. I will post some photos or a link to some this weekend Ed | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 874 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 874 | Easiest ways to tell if it's a 292....side covers are 6" high. Passenger side engine mount is in front of the fuel pump. The mounts are staggered by about 3 1/4". | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 | It could be a 194, 230 or 250. They are all dimensionally the same on the outside. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 38 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 38 | I do find it strange that GM did not put any marks on the engine to id it. From what I have read they only used a 250 and 292 in 65 and as this has low miles it should be the original engine so I guess I will go with 230. The 250 and 292 were made for many years, not just 1965. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | There should be an engine ID on the distributor pad, if not then the engine may have been replaced under warranty with a generic(?) by the dealer.
