For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 146 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 146 | I cannot thank all of you guys for helping me. I havent been on forawhile as I have been busy working on "Thing" I had a few issues to deal with. And seems as tho (thanks to MANY of you) I got them all cleared up. I figured I should let you guys know whats been up latley. #1: the title issue. I got PO'd and yanked off the old VIN plate (the orig) and bought a new one and gonna have it stamped with the #'s off the paperwork. Went to DMV and paid it all current ($285) and get the VIN verrified! #2: Gas tank, I filled it up with some old gasoline and let it set for awhile, then drained it out as I sloshed around. WORKED! Now it has a filter on it. Tho I fear the ending unit is next. #3: Brakes. After appx $400 later, I got new shoes all around, rear drums turned, 2 rear wheel cylinders. Seems as tho the MC is holding up. But I have one waiting for me ($140) if it goes out! #4: 3 gears. the 4th was discovered by my "make it or break it" husband. He had never driven one before with the reverse off to the left. So he jammed gears around till her found one that went in reverse. Well, guess what, all that jamming and gear grinding found 4th gear! It was gummed up and stuck w/something! So, he has 4 gears! #5: Engine. My Dad believes it to be a 25_ (252?) cant remember the last digit. Anyhow, I still need to climb under him (off jacks, terrified of being under truck on jacks) and get the number off his eng. still a issue... #6: PAINT, Thing has 8 EIGHT colors on him. I scraped and scraped and found his original color! However, the interior is still up in the air. Need to find some "nicer" original colors to paint him So far Thing has a order placed for a new tailgate, 2 rear stakes/hinges/chains/covers, and POSSIBLY a bed kit. Will cost a little over $800 for him (LONG bed) is that a fair price? Wood/Ribs/Bolts? Anyhow, I figured I would stop in and let you all know Thing is still alive and "rollin"

Put the serial numbers here and we'll help you figure it out. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 | Lost,
I'm glad you got it running, swing on by my place some time, I'm only about 15 miles away. I'm trying to get details finished so I can be driving mine. Just a few little things and I'll be there. It's a good feeling to get things done, the list gets shorter. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,029 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,029 | How many bolts or acorn nuts hold the valve cover down? That gives a clue as to the generation of the engine. The original should have been a splash oiled 235, but could have been a 216. also, is the top of the water pump even with the top of the block/bottom of the head or does it extend higher up on the head? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 146 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 146 | HaHaHa, more like "mouse" droppings! Honestly, I dont know off hand, haveta go out and look. You can click on my site and see pics of his eng! I still need to get the #'s, I know I know...Just waiting for wheels to go on. Scared of Jack Stands! Also, been told VC isnt right one for eng, regardless of what it is...?

I enjoyed your update. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 | Lost, Thanks for the update. Thing is in good hands!
