What flywheel can I use on this engine besides stock? The original one is of a different design, with a raised edge where the pressure plate bolts on and it's TOTALY FRIED :mad: !!!!

302 & 270 are the only ones like that!!

Would the 270 flywheel be the way to go?

Little Jimmy: Take your flywheel to a machine shop and they can turn/grind the clutch surface. You know you need a new clutch plate anyway. If your p. plate is toast, lots of suppliers carry borg & beck p. plates. Re-done, and you'll have lots of hook-up!!

You might check with- Hayes, McLeod,Pioneer, or Hayden. They all make flywheels and may have an aluminum or steel model to fix you up. You would be suprised at the performance change if you drop that 40+ lbs of steel wheel, for an 18 lb. aluminum!

C'mon Jim your meds must be wearing off or something . Divuldge just a bit more for me, plleeaasseee . Do you buy a stock sbc flywheel with the bolt holes drilled and everything and then drill your holes directly between the others? Do you mill out the center or turn down the end of the crank? How much modification is required for this install? Thanks

Donny goes to the swapmeet and buys the cheapest flywheel he can find and makes it fit

I go with him to Bonneville and if the kid don't break the car I get to drive

On my 39 I used a 270 on a 302 motor cause thats what was layin in the dirt when I found it

No I didn't find two............and I had the Mexican guys change the ring gear sosss I could use the foot starter

Aaron......The new meds and expresso just don't mix well I knoww I begining to sound like a cross between GL and So(what)lo......I don't think more fuels the answer....There's flame coming out the stacks now!!!!!

You might want to a search over on the inliners board. Seems that this was addressed a few weeks ago over there. IIRC you use a Chevy V8 flywheel, have a machine shop drill it and releive the crank hole. He had some studs mounted for the clutch as I remember. Hope this helps.

I don't have it in front of me, but I think that Bill Fisher's GMC speed manual said that you could use a '39 chevy. Another option, expensive tho, is a new one from Cliffords.
