I was given a '62 panel a few years ago. It has some serious cancer around the windshield and doglegs, but not much rust elsewhere. So I thought it might be more simple to weld in a donor cab. I figure if guys can chop tops, and make other outragious mods, I can splice in a better cab section. So the search was on for a relatively rust free cab.
Finally one turned up on crraigs list. $200! I arranged to have a look at it. When I got to the guys niegborhood, a large truck pulling a flatbed trailer pulled in ahead of me. I got seriously lost because this guy's nieghborhood was made of a bunch of paved hunting trails.
Not having a cell phone, I fell back to a local gas station, and gave the guy a call. I got his voicemail, and left a message. All sorts of things ran through my head. I began to think that the guy in the flatbed was beating me to it. Finally, I got more change for the phone, and he answered. Whew! Finally he met me at the station, and led me through his labyrinth of a subdivision to his Apache, parked under a carport. After a short inspection, he volunteered to lower the price to $100. I would have gladly given him $200 if I wasn't unemployed at the moment!
We loaded up most of the front clip in the back of my friends Ranger. Then with a little wieght in the back, I used it to drag the old truck out into the driveway, so I can get it on Monday.
I am so thrilled, because I really like the '61 front end over the '62. I'm normally a purist, but I think I'm going to install the '61 clip. Of course I can always hang on to the original clip.
