Picked up some mirrors for my pickup. There was no mirrors on it. how can I find out where they have to be mounted. I know the area but not exactly where the have to be mounted.

What type of mirrors did you buy? What does the mount look like?

If their the factory look round mirrors. Their mounted on the cowl. If you look under the dash near where the hood hinge bolts are, you should see mabey, the backing plate for the mirror.

I ran a search and couldn't come up with anything. I also looked in my 1949-51 Shop Manual and drew a blank. I looked at my '51 3/4 ton and I have my original style on the driver side, it never had one on the passenger side but if you look (feel) inside the cab, there are two holes that don't go through the outside sheet metal, at least on my truck. I am pretty sure those are for the optional right hand side mirror. Yours should have had a mirrow at least on the drivers side, maybe the holes were bondo'd in. Did you get original style mirrors? And what type of pickup, 1/2, 3/4, bigger?

its a 49 1/2ton.I looked on the inside and could not find any holes. I was thinking they puddied over them.I bought the mirrors at chevy duty,straight arm on drivers door and bent one on passengers. Two holes for mounting.

Approx. 1/4 down the page you will see "FAQ page". Click on FAQ and scroll down to the "How do I..." section. The 8 th topic from the top of this heading is entitled:

"How do I install pass side mirror on AD truck?"

In short, you will need to remove the cardboard glove box liner from the glove box n order to install the mirror arm on the pass. side of the truck . The glove box liner is held in place by approx. 8 - 10 small screws. Once the glove box liner is removed you will see two holes stamped into the cowl. Drill through these holes and you are ready to install your mirror arm.

I followed this advice when I recently installed a mirror on the right side of my '54 and it worked without any problems. I assume the same would be true on the drivers side, with the obvious exception of removing the glove box. I also got my mirrors from CD and I was pleased with their apparence.
