Help me out here -- I received my polished stainless steel windlace retainers from The Truck Shop today:

1. Do these look like polished stainless steel to you?

2. Do these look like they are for a '54?

Picture

I thought polished stainless usually looks like chrome ... and I expected these retainers to be "L" shaped -- to sit flat on the floor and wrap around the side of the floor-edge -- not to be "U" shaped and to sit above the floor, if you know what I mean.

I'm gonna call The Truck Shop today to clarify all this but I thought someone here might be able to confirm for me first.

Thanks.

Alan,

I have purchased 3 sets of lower windlace retainers for 1954 trucks, two polished stainless and one unpolished stainless that we painted.

1. The polished stainless sets that I have are polished almost to a chrome-lie appearance. I agree that your retainer does not look well polished.

2. The design of your retainers is correct for a '54. They sit above the floor with the high edge on the inside. The retainer on the left of your photo would be installed in the right door opening. It does not fill the entire door opening. The cut-out at the edges are there to allow the side windlace to come down to the floor and go under the side edge of the floor windlace retainer (the side windlace is actually supposed to go under the floor retainer and come out on the floor, a little inside of the inside edge of the floor retainer).

Check out the 47-55 Factory Assembly Manuual: SECTION 1; SHEET 3.10.

Alan, I agree with tclederman - they appear to be the correct ones for a 54 and I have to agree with you that they do not look like polished stainless steel to me.

Thanks, guys.

I expected one side to wrap over the edge of the floor, like a corner molding ... but I guess not.

I wanted something that would cover the edge of my carpet but if I attempt that idea with this, it will sit cocked and uneven. I'm ******. LOL - do I have to design *everything* myself in order to make it "right!?"

Alan, I have the same thing as you, but I have the rubber mat rather than carpet which is what they had when they left the factory. Mine covers the mat and is not cocked. When I get a chance, I will take and pic and post.

I don't know about the shape, but the finish looks like anodized aluminum.

Alan, here are some pics of mine, they are stainless but not polished and weren't advertised as polished when I ordered them.

Thanks all.

I'm sending them back. The quality is horrible and the pieces don't do what I want them to do, which is also to act as a trim piece at the edge of the floor for the carpet.

I'm going to have to fabricate something myself.
