Hi I recently bought a rebuilt (long) waterpump for a 55 235 engine, which has the 4 mounting holes but does NOT have the 1/2 inch water hole for water (looks to come from head in the engine block.)question is this hole supposed to be in the water pump or are some pumps built without it on purpose ? Looks easy enough to drill a hole in the pump to match up but don't want to if it is NOT supposed to be there. seen some pictures of water pumps with the hole. thanks for any help John

Sounds like you are referring to the heater feed outlet. I've never seen or heard of one without it.
