I have been working on rebuilding the 235 from my 58, and I have noticed on some photos of other 58's that the oil cap is towards the front of the valve cover and some (like mine) the oil cap is in the center of the cover. Looks like you've got a true frame-up rebuild going on there. Good luck! Wish I could help. You might consider going into the gallery for '58s and '59s and seeing what other bolts look like. Shop manual couldn't hurt.

It depended on the body style- GM put the centered cap on engines that were easier to reach from the side and toward the front on engines that were easier to reach from the front.
