Okay another question. I seem to be asking a lot these days. I have a full size spare and have always just had it chained in my bed. Where did the stock spare tires go originally? I've seen them on the side of the bed forward of the rear fender, but the fender always had a notch in it.

Is that where they were designed to go?

If it ain't broke, take it apart and figure out why!

They originally went under the back part of the bed, although many were remounted to the driver's stepside; for ease of access I suppose. I like the look of the stepside mount but am concerned about originality. The under bed spare tire carrier can be purchased from J Carter's for $289 and change . Here's a picture of the original look. This particular truck, Willoughby\'s 1946 1/2 ton, still had the original under bed spare tire carrier when purchased. Here's Tom Brown\'s at Brad's site.

Does anyone else have an opinion about the mounting of the spare? You've got me sitting on the fence again.. ohwell
