Don't know if '54 and '47 are exactly the same; but, Chevy's restoration guide for the '47 AD gives 56 9/16 for the front with 6.50-16-6 ply and 57 11/16 for 15" 6 ply. It says the rear widths are 69 3/4 and 70 3/4 respectively. Hope this helps.

U-Haul tells me that it is 80 inches. That just didn't seem right. I know the cab was called the "six footer" but 6'8" seems a bit much.
It just occurred to me that their concern might be the running boards since the rails are below the fenders. Kedso, would it be possible to measure outside to outside at the running boards?

Before I bought my own trailer, I hauled several AD trucks (including suburbans) on U-Haul Trailers. The truck only weighs 3200 lbs max . . . it will be fine. The problem is that if they punch it up in their computer and it doesn't say what they want to see . . . you are outta luck. | | |

Last fall I had the problem with U-Haul since their computer idn't go back to 1948. I wound up getting a trailer from Penske and put the 48 Burb on it, no problem. Their trailer was 2 inches wider than a u-haul, cheaper, and no flack about the year.
