All I would remember are the English ones as a weird third eye on the hood and then the Bosch lamps, but they came later. Mind you, I grew up in Europe, so we had a bit different vehicles. Edit; did a search for pictures and found this huge list of oldies, no fog lamps though, but fun to snoop Old trucks for sale Check the GALLERY here, there might be some in there (All I find is Stovebolt pages ) | | | | | Joined: Jul 2002 Posts: 165 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2002 Posts: 165 | Chevrolet used Guide fog lights. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 | Thanks for Welcoming me to your neighborhood guys - It's good to be here! I'm constantly looking on eBay for a nice pair of foglights, and I've seen many different brands and styles of lights - and brackets. I sure would hate to bid and win and then find out I bought the wrong ones. I'm tring to make my 49 Chevy Panel look a little like the Calif. "bomb/lowrider" look. I've bought the Fulton Sunvisor - and the spotlights on the windshield pillar. My next step is the fog lights. Any recomendations would be great?! I bought a burnt out, sealed beam fog light for $2 at a swap meet. I don't know if mine is period-correct, but I like the look. Here it is parked at work next to Stevejumpr's beautiful '55 1st. Or at least i dont recall seeing them in the 50's.... and to tell the truth, i wish all of them were outlawed... People that have them set wrong and run them 24 hrs a day..and at night when there isnt a hint of fog, or just to look cool Or maybe even on purpose to irratate other drivers, they tend to blind other drivers or me anyway... anyway just my old opinion.

They've been available (and tormenting people when used in non-foggy conditions) since at least the 30s. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 364 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 364 | "Guide" is definitely the provider for exterior lightnig for 1949...note the stainless piece on top of the stock taillight. I have an original set of Guide fo lights on my '49 Burb. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | Steve,
I think you are correct about the fog lamps up through at least 1954 being Guide (the link I gave above is for '54). The '54 photo above also shows a spotlight that looks more like a Unity style lamp.

I'll try to address each of you -here goes: ViejitosCC - You say they had a "clamp-system" that were mounted to the bumper brackets (how? - using the bumper bolts or...some other way??) - and a stem that went through a hole in the apron (what hole? I don't have a hole in my apron?...) Wally / Montana - Love the 48 3/4ton 5 window Flatbed! Your truck looks like it would be the perfect truck for that kind of terrain! Nice fatweed - I'm sorry to hear you hate fog lights so much! I assure you sir that they will most likely be used for looks only, to go with THE THEME of my 49 Chev Panel truck which = a Police Paddy wagon! tclederman - Thanks for the 50s fog lights AD/Docs/Accessory link...that was cool! Also, I'm bookmarking your 54 AD.com website. It looks like a good reference site - Nice job! Good info! Steveg: I LOVE YOUR 49 Burb!! I love everything about it - colors, rims, tires, bumper guards...YOU DO GREAT WORK!! This is exactly how I would want the front of my truck to look, with the lowered stance (but with the black & white Police Paddy wagon theme)! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 339 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 339 | Fog lights was very popular all during the 30's, 40's, and 50's...In My opinion some are getting them confused with the high intensity lights that You see today, especially the off-road trucks...They bother Me also... Guide was mostly what GM used, and almost believe GM owned Guide, or had much stock in them...Unity lamps were used alot also...Lots of Unity's installed on police, fire, and ambulances..Bill B | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 | Thanks for replying Bill That's very interesting...how do you know that lots of Unity's were installed on police, fire, and ambulances? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 |
