Not so much inner workings, but things like mount pads for alternator, clutch, motor mounts, things like that. Thanks. | | | | | Joined: May 2002 Posts: 155 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2002 Posts: 155 | Should be the same...There was 1 year they used a 1 piece intake/exhaust manifold which was a piece of junk, but other than that they should be the same.. my interchange only goes to 65, but shows same block. My factory parts catalog shows same from 63-72, so you should be ok...

The early models had 7/16 holes in the crank for the flywheel same as the smaller 6,s & v-8,s. The latter ones had 1/2 in. bolts. You can drill the small hole flywheel out to use the bigger bolts. The early ones had the temp sender in the therm. housing & latter ones had an opining in the head. 73 up went to small belt pulleys & damper. 1 ton & smaller had 2 in. exhaust pipe outlet like the smaller engines & 1 1/2 ton up had 2 1/2 in. outlet. I have just bought a block with casting number 3921970 to put into a '66 C-10. From what I saw online, that casting ran from 63-76. My suffix code is RE, which another website told me was from 1969. Sounds like none of this will present a problem as I attempt to piece the various components onto it and drop it in. Would appreciate if anyone has other data regarding this casting number and/or suffix code. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 27 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 27 | Mr Wrenchbender, Sir,
So if I wanted this to be correct for 1966 factory correct, I should obtain a therm house that has a temp sender port? Another question along that line, would a '66 have had the cooling sytem bypass? And does that hose come out of the therm housing or the water neck? Lastly, I have seen "vertical" and "horizontal" water necks for these engines. Which came with which? It will have a pipe plug in it if it wasn,t used. They all have bypass hoses that go from the water pump to the therm. housing. The 73 up used a 5/8 hose & the earlier ones used a 1 in. They are available from any parts store. The water outlet direction depends on the application. They interchange with v-8,s. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though.
