seen some ,,new, grills lately in chrome wich looked like they had gold/copper patches on the chrome! dothese repo grills varie in quality or are they all churned out the same sweatshop?
does the chrome hold up? or is it like the 24hour chrome on cheap moon caps?
thinking of buying from truck shop orange

I got one from the Chevy Duty 2 years ago and so far, so good.

The cheap crome holds up good if you keep wax on it.

i have had my grill for 3 years, got it from chevy duty not one blemish on it, and my truck is a daily driver and sits out in the weather

I will someday soon , hopefully, need to decide to either rechrome my grill or buy a new one. Two questons I need answered: 1) will the new grill be less expensive than having the old one rechromed, and 2) should I expect the rechromed to hold up as as long as the new one?

My grill on my 56' must be a cheap repo. Around the cormers are gaps you could throw a cat through. Not that I would, mind you. Hate to get hair cuaght in the teeth of my 56'.

I think I'm going to have to get a new one eventually...

I had my original grill rechromed on my 48 and the shop that did it did a fantastic job. I had ordered brand new bumpers from Chevy Duty and the chrome on them was horrible comparing to my grill. I've never ordered a chrome grill but if I did and it would look like my bumper I would want to send it back.

Best way to go is buy a non chrome grill and have it chromed by the shop of your choice.
That 24 hour chrome is junk,,done overseas and not worth the time or money.
Been there,,done that.

I'm glad this subject surfaced. The grille on my truck has a few dings. Been thinking of getting it chromed. Do crome shops do small repairs like dings before they chrome?
I have looked online for a new chrome one (1960 apache) have seen nothing yet. If you've seen something somewere let me know.

On the Panel in the picture above the grill had stone chips and other little dings before chrome. They must have fixed the damage before chroming because now it is smooth as could be and can't see any previous damage.

big chevy 3600, up here in kansas city it was going to be about 550.00 - 600.00 to rechrome one, chevy duty is 10 minutes up the road from me and it cost 400.00, the only deal is it took a little time to get it in. being after market it got a little tight in a couple of spots(may have been my truck too), but a little time and patients went a long way

Thanks guys I now am more confused that ever. I wish there was some way to grade those mom and pop Chrome shops. It sounds like a "crap shoot" with both chrome shop and Chevy Duty etc.

Chrome shop will probably have some finished product to look at to help with the decision. Its been a few yrs, decades since had chrome done but it was good. You always get what you pay for go cheap and you probably get cheap. Every time I go for the deal I get scre#ed. I'll pay good $$$ for good work.

You can buy a repro chrome '55-'56 for around $225-250, I had my original grill rechromed for around $550, they did fix some dings and dents.

I do have a repro rear bumper, can't wait to get my originals redone so that I can dump the repro
