I think that it probable had a stone element and a spring in it, but am unsure and i've seen on chevyduty that they sale a paper element for a glass bowl filter that looks like mine...

These guys specialize in 55,56 & 57 passenger cars but their illustrated catalog is better than the GM original. It's a Wix brand filter part number: 33034. I don't remember what it cost, but it must not have cost a whole lot since I bought a spare.  I also went to my local Ace Hardware store and bought some of those little magnets to put in the bowl, too, to catch the chunks of metal that is found in so much of todays gas. They may not be necessary, but the old one had some magnets on it so I thought for that vintage look I'd go with the magnets. Joe
