For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 33 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 33 | Recently I was browsing around and read something about "Gibbs Oil" or something that sounded like that. The Gentleman who was using this product used it as a penetrent as well as a lubricant. Another interesting thing he used it for was what he called "Priming over rust" before actual primer and paint. He said the rust never came back. Has anyone heard of this kind of oil and what have you used it for? Also, is it available in Canada, online etc? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 662 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 662 | | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 | Never seen it before but it sounds like a viable product. Noticed a major difference in price between suppliers. "The Thing Shop" was advertising it at $8.95 a can, so being a sucker for anything that will work well on guns and cars, guess I'll try the product for myself. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 285 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 285 | I'm going to give it a try also! | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | I found this supplier ... and wound up building his web site! Check it out: GetGIBBS.com PS - I tried GIBBS and was amazed! It's the only thing that stopped my fan belts from squeeling ... you can definitely use it instead of primer (my nephew paints cars and couldn't believe it until he tried it) ... it not only prevents rust but it actually eats rust ... and if you have any stainless steel appliances, you know about fingerprints that can't be removed -- GIBBS removes them forever. Way cool.

To those of you who have used this stuff; can I spray it into the cylinders of my engine that has not turned over in 25 years and unfreeze the motor? If so, I will get some & try it there and also try it on some of the other rusty parts on my 57 project truck. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | Hey, Alan.
Yes, you can! It's a good carb' cleaner, too!

Since I am getting it, I am going to try it on several things. If you have used it and say it is good stuff, I know that your word is good enough for me. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | Trust me ... there's nothing like it. Another experience I had with GIBBS was the push-buttons on my door handles. Another lesson in aftermarket garbage, they keep rusting up on me. I polished them with chrome polish after getting the rust off and it would just keep coming back. This is how I discovered GIBBS ... I was telling a Harley enthusiast about the rust and he just looked at me and said, "GIBBS." I cleaned the rust off again and applied GIBBS to the buttons ... a few days later I did it again. That was last Fall and I haven't seen any rust since! You can read more testimonials here: http://getgibbs.com/testimonials.php

On the website it says you can paint over it, but if you read his paragraph about painting over it, it says in effect that you remove it with whatever surface cleaner your paint manufacturer reccomends. How's that painting over it if you have to remove it first? It also says it will penetrate gaps as small as one micron. So will most all liquids, especially those thinner than water.

PS - This stuff has been around since the 60s ... it was invented by a guy who worked at Harley Davidson and had a chemical background.
