What type of vehicle, etc. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 | Wheel spacers can disrupt the steering geometry resulting in excessive tire wear, poor handling, etc. Read this page of the shop manual and you will understand the effect when the distance between the wheels changes. http://chevy.tocmp.com/1948_51truckshop/51ctsm0312.htm Curt B.

I learned this the hard way... on a AMC marlan I bought and was towing home..... the previous owner had installed wheel spacers so the front wheels would clear the disc brakes. Even though I had the lug nuts all tighned to spec, about half way home the left front wheel came loose and came off....bouncing across 5 lanes of traffic during rush hour in Phoenix.... To this day? I still thank the gods that although the wheel/tire went bouncing across the road??? it missed every car/truck on it's path...... the only thing that kept the car from nose diving was the towbar.........
