I finally made it to a milestone with my 54.....off to the Painter she has gone. The fenderless, grilleless, bedless, bumperless, weatherstrippingless cab and chassis made it down the road to the Painter and recieving thumbs-up along the way.

Question: I need to purchase all the exterior and interior rubber weatherstripping and molding. Without bashing... is there one vendor products superior to others? I appreciate your experience.

sfsutton,

Steele Rubber Products has the best quality and the highest prices. Some people say that other vendors sell Steele Products, but this is hard to confirm.

There are few makers of repop parts. Most vendors buy from the same manufacturers (I've been told that by the vendors). The Filling Station has the largest selection of different profile weatherstripping of any vendor that I have seen other than Steele. I've been less than totally satisfied with the fit of rubber seals & gaskets available, even from Steele.

judging by the fact that the Filling Station rubber diagrams are exact copies of the Steele illustrations, they are no doubt a Steele vendor .... and usually a bit cheaper grin Steele insures vendors they [Steele] won't sell for less than suggested retail, but doesn't restrict vendors from better prices

my experience has been that if you ask, any vendor will tell you their source company - also in my experience, you want to avoid rubber from SofSeal

I used "Classic Parts Of America" (old Chevy Duty) for all the rubber components on my 54 truck. Found their products to be well constructed and of a good quality. My door seals did not hinder final door adjustment and seal well. Thier window rubber made installation easy and their prices were competitive.

Would not hesitate to use them again. Hope this helps.

"lmc truck" -Long motor company has a lot of stuff that vintage. when i put the windshield rubber in my 1949 3600, the rubber from lmc is a little better than that of chevy duty, it covers the corners a little better, i have dealt with chevy duty also it as well is a great company

Don't Forget Restoration Specialties & Supply, Inc., in Windber, PA. www.restorationspecialties.com
I've delt with then and they have an unbelivable selection of body seals, bumpers, molding clips and general automotive hardware. You won't find the usual restoration parts there like hub caps, body panels seat covers, etc., they are truly a specialty company.
They were a little slow on delivery but not any worse than Carter.
