someone asked me today and I had to confess that I didn't know.

It forced you to slide acoss the seat so you wouldn't get hit by cars while trying to unlock your vehicle to get in. Unless you lived in a larger city the streets weren't paved, at least in the midwest, and with the lock on the sidewalk side you didn't have to slog around through the mud or the slush to get in the cab. Nice if you had on your "saturday night to town good shoes".

hey dad6timz, thanks for your welcome, I run a chevy truck company over here in england, and I have approx 200 customers on my books with the early trucks, i ship about 15-20 trucks per year from the usa to england, they are lovingly restored and then sold on to customers who cherish these old trucks. our show season starts here in april and I will post picture of trucks here in the uk if anyone interested.
