Hello Stovebolters, I just purchased a 1939 Chevy 1/2 ton truck. Does anyone have any recommendations how I should get it picked up from Davenport Iowa and shipped to Anaheim California. It is in conition 6 (rough) with the fenders and floorboards off it.

It need a grille. Anyone know where I can get one?

Hi Mark and welcome to the 'bolt! There are lots of carriers that do this sort of work, you can look in your yellow pages under auto transport. Also, you should list this in the "hauling board" forum on this site. Good luck with the new project. Remember to post pictures of your progress on the build.

my suggestion is get one of the haulers from this board, they may be a few extra bucks, but they have a respect for these old trucks. Don't make the mistake I did and go blind and get the WORST transport possibly ever. Luckily the truck came out unscathed (barely) and can laugh about it now

Go over to YesterdaysTractor.com and check out the Hauling Schedule.

I've sold many vehicles, and most buyers have found guys on YesterdaysTractor.com to haul 'em home for them at a fraction of the cost of 'commercial' carriers.

Most times they're guys just like you and I.. they're headed out to get something they bought, and will be headed one direction empty.. so they look to find somebody who needs something took that way, and many times do it for little more than the cost of fuel and maybe a dinner or two.

Welcome. I saw a add with 39 plain steel grills, when I'm home I will look it up. Check the classified here on the bolt.

39 Grilles are available through most of the major parts people like Jim Carter, etc. I've seen quite a few on Ebay lately. I think the plain steel one is priced around $250.00 and the chromed ones for about twice that?

The difference between the original and the repros is that the repros don't have the crank hole near the bottom. Really more of an aesthetic issue. I've been told to only crank start these if you like broken arms.

I think there's a grill on eBay now. eBay also has links to transporters.
