What modern straight 6 engine and manual tranny combo is the easiest drop in for my 51 1/2 ton. I really don't want to go with a V8 and bump the HP to much as it is going to be a toy car for my wife and she doesn't need or want big HP numbers. I figure a nice 6 will be within the limits of the rest of the vehicle. she just wants a funky cool truck.
Thanks
Greg

A 235 is modern compared to some engines.
They run good, last a long time, and are cheap.
Even a direct bolt in for your truck.
What do you think?

On another note, think about a Cummings 4 or 6 cylinder, the 4 fits nicely. Good fuel economy and power, dependable too

235 would be my choice. Perhaps even the 250, but I don't know how that one bolts up.

I've got a babbit-beater 235 now and haven't fully decided to get the correct 216.5 or the modern 235.

If it ain't broke, take it apart and figure out why!

my truck was used for ambiance at a local night club for 20 years. part of the decor. The acopolco club kept everything dry and rust free but it has no engine or transmission.

If you want something thats just turnkey you could put fuel injection on the 235 without too much hassle. Or, since you are sourcing a new drivetrain anyway I would use one of the Vortec 4200 straight sixes out of a Trailblazer and get the whole computer with it.

The 235 is the easiest to put in but if you want something more modern & don,t mind doing some modifications I would put in a 250 with a 5 speed manual. The 250 takes a lot of weight off the front wheels & will make it easier to steer. It also is easier to adapt power steering or A/C.

Yea, a full pressure 235 is a good motor and a direct bolt in job.

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.
