I just recently bought a 64 C10 longbed Fleetside with an I6 and granny 4-speed. When I bought it I was under the impression that the motor was a 235. But I've read a lot about 230s and 250s (which I thought were Nova motors...at least I've owned Novas with them) in the C10s and now I'm confused.

I'm a little more familiar with smallblock V8s than I6s so I could use a little help. Is there a rule of thumb for which motors were used when? A good way to identify them?

Any help would be appreciated,

Looking at the picture of the motor. There appears to be a bypass hose running from the water pump to the thermostst housing. If that is correct you have a 292, big brother to the 230/250. You can check your casting number www.inliners.org.

Well, there's a heck of a storm comin in, so I didn't spend a lotta time under the hood this morning looking for a casting number. The only one I found (right rear side of the block) said K66.

However, based on the facts that I measured the side covers and they're 6" tall and there is a water hose going from the inlet to the water pump, I'm gonna take a flyin leap and presume that it's a 292.

I'll find the casting numbers on a day when I'm not tryin to keep from bein blown into the next county by a storm.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Ray

your motor is not a 235 - could be a 230 or a 250 by the looks of it. A much better motor than the 235 by a long shot.

You definitely have a 292. Congratulations! I have one in a 66 c10.
