For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 25 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 25 | Hey guys! Any advice on a good source for a factory assemby manual and a shop and body manual for a 1949 GMC 250? This one has a dump body. Thanks! | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 453 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 453 | Welcome to Stovebolt! I bought my "Factory Assembly Manual" and "Shop Manual" from www.chevyduty.com before I even started turning a bolt on my truck. Used them so much that some of the pages are hard to read from my greasy fingers. I'm sure other vendors offer the same books as well like Jim Carter and Truck and Car Shop just to name a few. Hoped this helped. ~Ron | | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 454 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 454 | Or try American Classic who hosts and sponsors the 'Bolt.

You might already know this but the 1947-1955 Chevrolet Truck Factory Assembly Manual is quite useful for all Advance-Design (1947-1955) Chevrolet Trucks and almost as useful for all New Design (1947-1955) GMC trucks. There is no dump-body-equipment information in this manual (if I am wrong, someone will correct me).
This manual (and a 47-54 GMC Shop Manual) is available from most parts vendors. If there is a GMC-equivalent reproduction Factory Assembly Manual (or a 1949 GMC Shop Manual), maybe some one will post information.
Also, the 47-55 Chevy Truck Factory Assembly Manual shows drawings for 1954/55-1st series Chevy trucks. There were many subtle and not-so-subtle changes and diffences between 47-54 Chev/GMC trucks.

I have the factory assbly manual for when I was restoring my 51 5 window 1/2 Chevy, and I also have the ship and chassis manual for that truck. I guess I need to look through them first, as I was going to let them go with the truck when I sell it. Thanks again Originally posted by tclederman: loadmaster 235,
