I need to tear my heater apart and check on either a disconnected or faulty temp. control valve or a plugged heater core (have no circulation through the heater). I have looked in the '55-'59 Factory Assy. Manual but can't find an exploded view of the heater. Does anyone have a pic handy??? I am guessing I just remove a dozen or so tiny hex-head screws and the front pulls off, but would rather have a "look" inside before I take it apart.

there's some info on the 2 types of factory installed heaters in the accessories manual , but as they're optional accessories, there is no parts view of any of them anyplace, they come assembled!

if you have the deluxe heater, yes, you hafta take the case into 2 parts, the control [if original] is mounted on the core inlet - if you have the standard heater, there's no factory control in it - easiest to work on either if you take it right outta the truck cuz you can't really get at all the screws in place

Thanks Bill....to completely remove the heater does it unbolt from the engine compartment or from the cab?? I see where to take the front cover off in the cab. My heater is the deluxe model. I also have new heater levers ordered (on backorder.. smile . I am guessing they are easy to install once the heater controls are removed from the dash. Any other hints?

the heater comes out by unbolting the 4 [5-6?] studs that go thru the firewall on the engine side and removing the heater hoses - prolly easier if the control cables are disconnected first, and the levers are pretty straight forward once you have the control out

I'm finished up my busy season now, and have been intending to work up some detailed info on the TF heaters, seein I've got a couple of each grin I'll pull out the delux one I restored last year and take some pics tomorrow

On the deluxe heater, there's 5 nuts- 3 for the heater core box, and 2 for the blower fan housing. for the core box, one is under the battery tray, one just to the engine side of the tray, and the last one is behind the battery. the two for the fan housing are to the outside of the tray.

it's easier to get to the 4 bolts that hold the box in if you remove the battery holder first. i took the glove box out as well so it access to all of the ducts was simple.

Here's a pic of the box in the cab, with the front taken off.

got one batch of delux heater pics on webshots Joe - there's 3 nuts to remove for the core box and 3 for the blower section

note the control in the un-restored one has been eliminated, as most are after 10,20,30 years because they always start leaking ... I've seen a few different designs of controls, and the only one repro'd now that I know of is for the tri5 car, won't fit most of the Harrison truck heaters

i added a new control valve to mine when i rebuilt it. Found it here...

Assuming that your referring to this control valve.

also, i do have 4 bolts holding the entire box on, nuts are located on the firewall - maybe someone just added one over time.

cool, yeah that one - last I checked around, anyplace that had'em listed said they weren't available ... I decided it'd be better to put a different style under the hood anyway where leaking wouldn't be a problem smile
