My truck didn't have emblems on it when I bought it. I bought some reproduction emblems and want to install them. There are no holes drilled or exposed on the outside front fenders, maybe they were filled. How do I access the back of the fender to see if the holes where filled, do the fenders have to be removed? I may have to drill new holes which I really hate doing. Could these emblems be installed with 3M double backing tape? I know they have a little weight to them, so I'm not sure the tape would hold, plus I'd have to cut off the 3 attachment pieces on the emblems. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I think the only way that you can get it right is to remove the fenders and drill out the holes that have been filled. I know that is not the easy way, but it is the right way. I think they are to heavy to use tape.

You're probably right, that will be a spring project it looks like. I hate drilling holes, because the paints pretty nice, but I do want the emblems installed.

I think the 60-61 had them mounted on the hood. I have a 61 and they were on the hood. Open the hood and look on the sides to see if you can tell where the holes were filled.

I believe that the 60's had the emblems on the fenders and the 61's had them on the hood. Being on the hood would be too good to be true.

I checked the gallery too before I bought the emblems to check thier placement. It looks like they're on the the fenders.

I think I can mount them without removing the fenders. I just have to drill the holes on the outside of the fender and use the bullet type clips or anchors. I had a 63 T-bird and the roof emblems were attached that way from the factory, I forgot about that.

Hey Joe,I think the assembly manual shows the exact placement of those emblems on the fenders.I can try to find it for you tommorrow if that will help.

Also,if you are going to drill from the outside,you will want to start those holes in such a manner so the bit want "walk" and scratch the paint.I use a pen knife and very gently make an indention in the paint exactly where I want to drill,then I use a pointed punch and hammer to make a set point for the bit.

Hold the punch tightly against the fender and LIGHTLY and GENTLY give it a SOFT blow with the hammer.

Use a very sharp drill bit and let it cut slowly,don't try to force it with pressure or it will walk and damage the paint.

Sorry,this is proably way more information than you need or were looking for but I recently spoiled a perfectly good paint job in a similar situation.Hope this helps and let me know if you want me to try to find the emblem palcement for you.

That was very helpful, yes I would appreciate the exact placement for the emblems. How did you attach them, did you pull the fender off and use the fasteners that came with the emblems? Should there be a gasket behind the emblem? Mine didn't come with any but I thought there probably should be. My paints really nice so I would hate to mess it up.

Joe, the placement for the back hole for the emblem is 20 and 1/2 inches from bottom of the fender and 4 inches from the rear of the fender at the door seam (drivers side).You will be able to locate the balance of the holes by the mounting studs on the emblems.

I had the fenders off the truck so I had no problem using the original pins on the emblems.I would not use adhesive or tape to mount them,they are heavy and I doubt they would stay.You can get to that area but it is a tight reach because of the air dam.

There are no gaskets behind the emblems on my trucks and I can't recall seeing a truck with gaskets.

I wanted to scan a page from the assembly manual for you but I was unable to do that.Good luck and if you need anything else just let me know.
