For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 4 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 4 | I have a 49 Chevy shortbed and I'm trying to put a side mounted spare tire carrier on it. I have found a dimpled fender and the mounting bracket, but can't seem to get a normal sized tire to fit. Does anyone know if there is a special wheel that has to go on it...or does anyone have any suggestions? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | What is the size of your tire? How far off from fitting is it?
There were different side-mount carriers for 1954/55 1/2 ton trucks with 6:00x16 (and 15") tires and for 6.50x16 tires). This might have also been the case in 1953. Also, larger trucks had other side-mount brackets (but did not need the dimpled fender). | | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 46 Member | | Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 46 | Gigster...are you saying that the tire doesn't fit on the tire mount or won't fit in the recess in the fender? If mounting assem.you have is for a 3/4 or 1-ton, the mounting studs will be too far apart for your wheel to go on. If that's the case, I have a 1/2 ton assem.& need a 3/4 -1 ton assem. we could trade. | | |
