Am trying to work on heater fan in my '53 Chev 3/4 T.--and it's darn cold up here.

Am I going to be able to get to the heater fan without removing the heater core? (It is a round core--) Or do I have to remove the heater core/fan as a unit?

At 7500 feet, it's cold up here with no heat!

You will need to remove the core with the motor & fan, then you can remove the fan (easier said then done) by backing out the set screw and tapping off the fan from the motor shaft then remove the two nuts holding the motor to the core and install your new motor, nuts then fan and your ready to put it back in the housing and reinstall in your truck.

Insure that you tighten the set screw, and maybe use some locktight. Mine backed off and allowed the fan blade to get it to the core, causing damage, resulting in a trip to radiator doctor.

I pulled mine to upgrade to a 12 volt. I bought the new motor from Brothers but the studs were off by about 1/32 on an inch or more. Rather than jerryriging it I sent it back. I have not reordered from another vender yet. If anyone has bought a 12 volt heater moter and had it fit let me know.

The one I used was made by Enerco.I looked it up in the Carquest catalog by shaft size and style.I had to cut the shaft to length with a 4 inch cut off wheel.Works fine.

Big Chevy 3600,To add to the above.I found the part number for the blower motor I used.It was still on the motor,duh.The number is Unimotor #14576 (made by Enerco of Canada)It is 12 volt and can be wired for either rotation CC<--->C.Hope this helps!
