Thinking that I had an airlock in my heater (coolant is not circulating) I drained the radiator and tried to flush water through the heater with a garden hose after removing both heater hoses from the motor. Wont circulate either direction. Am I looking at a plugged heater core???

possible, wouldn't be a suprise if some winged thing had built a mud nest in it at some point when the hoses were off for awhile, or even a mouse - but if it's a deluxe heater there's also a temp control valve that may be stuck shut, you'd hafta take the case apart and have a look-see

I clear them out with a blast of air in the return tube but like red says makre shure there is not a valve in the circuit. If that doesn,t get it you will have to pull the core & take it to a radiator shop or get a new one.

I just went through a similar situation this weekend on my heater core. It turned out that the cable had come unhooked from the control valve located inside the case.

If it is plugged it might be worth a shot going to the carwash and giving it some pressure.

Did that in another truck a few weeks ago, all kinds of junk came out and now it works fine.

Try it before you buy a new one or take it to get recored.

Good Luck.

The water passages are very narrow and is proabily pluged from gunk.I took mine off and poured radiator flush let sit for a day of so and then used a shop vac to suck out from the discharge. May have to do several times. Note mine it the round type, insure that you get fan screw tight and put paint on it or the screw may back off and you'll be taking it to a radiator shop for a repair caused buy the fan blabes rubbind hole in the tubes.

thanks guys......I never even gave a thought to the chance the temp control valve may be stuck or the cable unhooked, leaving it closed. Probably wont get to tearing it out till the weekend but will report back with whatever I find....thanks again all
