Peter it is not a tough job getting it out if you don't have a radio. I presume you tried wiping with a wet windshield. There are some people who suggest putting some sort of lube or softner on the leather diaphragm by squirting it in the hole where the vacuum line goes. Speaking of, have you checked the line? sometimes people use a thinner wall hose and it collapses which of course would cut back on the performance. I have a spare if you want to try it.
Bill

Just wanted to say very nice truck Peter. I removed the vac wiper on my 46 because they really don't work all that well.

Hahaha...I wasn't all that clear on that post was I?

I put an electric wiper motor kit that mounts behind the stock wiper header panel in our truck. It is kind of loud but it works much better than vacuum wipers.

Rainx. Keep that stuff on your wind shield and you don't need the wipers.

Sometimes vacuum wipers get a bad rap. I have been fortunate in both of my trucks to have good ones. In fact the 49 wipers move so quickly that I can envision the blades shooting off the arms. A double action fuel pump is a good thing if you want constant wiper action.

I'm planning on replacing my non-functional vacuum wiper on my truck with an electric unit.

I know that it's not the same set up as you have, but I bet that someone makes an electrical version that will fit your rig.

That way you can have the throttle open more than a quarter of the way and still see where you're going! grin

I put electric on our old 49. It is the only way to go in my opinion. I don't like my wipers speed varying with the RPMS. The Electric one is reliable and it was very easy to change...works great.....well, that is when the truck ran frown

I put a double action fuel pump in on the 41 and the vacuum side sole purpose is to run the wipers, no problems when climbing a hill as the wipers don't work off the intake vacuum anymore.
