I presume you tried wiping with a wet windshield. There are some people who suggest putting some sort of lube or softner on the leather diaphragm by squirting it in the hole where the vacuum line goes. Speaking of, have you checked the line? sometimes people use a thinner wall hose and it collapses which of course would cut back on the performance. I have a spare if you want to try it. I removed the vac wiper on my 46 because they really don't work all that well. | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 327 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 327 | You don't live on the wet coast like old blu and I you need wipers you never know when its going to rain..Peter | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 159 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 159 | Hahaha...I wasn't all that clear on that post was I?
I put an electric wiper motor kit that mounts behind the stock wiper header panel in our truck. It is kind of loud but it works much better than vacuum wipers. | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 483 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 483 | Rainx. Keep that stuff on your wind shield and you don't need the wipers. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 | Sometimes vacuum wipers get a bad rap. I have been fortunate in both of my trucks to have good ones. In fact the 49 wipers move so quickly that I can envision the blades shooting off the arms. A double action fuel pump is a good thing if you want constant wiper action. | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 | I'm planning on replacing my non-functional vacuum wiper on my truck with an electric unit. I know that it's not the same set up as you have, but I bet that someone makes an electrical version that will fit your rig. That way you can have the throttle open more than a quarter of the way and still see where you're going! | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 | I live on the wet coast of Canada too.I put a New Port electric in my truck. It bolted right up and works great | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 | I put electric on our old 49. It is the only way to go in my opinion. I don't like my wipers speed varying with the RPMS. The Electric one is reliable and it was very easy to change...works great.....well, that is when the truck ran | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 507 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 507 | I put a double action fuel pump in on the 41 and the vacuum side sole purpose is to run the wipers, no problems when climbing a hill as the wipers don't work off the intake vacuum anymore.
