Hey, my boy (who is now 13 and getting interested in cars) wants a die cast model or model of a 1954 Chevy pickup (so he can have one like 'ours'). I've looked around on the internet, but thought maybe one you guys had a line on die cast of the 54... HELP!

rmillburn,

Don't know what part of Colorado you're in but you can probably find one at Foss Drug out in Golden.

There's a guy that shows up at alot of the car shows and swap meets that has just about anything you'd want also.

I'll keep my eyes open, and let you know if I see something.

Looks like the young man is just going to have to settle for a full-sized model!!!! I've been scouting for one for some time! (A 54 model)

Maybe that's a subtle hint to start checking for his "first ride".....you couldn't ask for a better set of wheels. Great Father/Son project!!! But then, I'm prejudiced!

Mizel Hobbies, ( Colorado's largest collection of trains, Whole wall)West 74th Ave, just west of Federal Blvd. If not in stock, can be ordered. The 53 just happens to be the most common and popular ?? ( marketers) Also look at plastic models on line. Jon

Depending on what scale you're looking for will determine what you can find. The '50-'53 seems to be most popular. there is a plastic kit of a '50, and there used to be a resin cast conversion to make it a '54. Not sure if it's still available.
Off subject, kinda, anybody looking for a '50 GMC 1/2 ton stake dicast might want to check Menards. They have a nice 1/18 scale die cast in red and green for around $19. There's also a '41 Chevy in 1/43 (opening hood and doors!) for $8.

Fred, Have you ever seen one for a 62 stepside?
I don't care if it's die cast or plastic. I never found one. Seems like I have seen the tri 5's a lot.

I'm with Fla54 - if the boy is 13 get started on a full scale truck.
That gives the 2 of you time to do a restoration at a reasonable pace. When you get done he will be 16 and needing wheels...
Good Luck!

gazim-AMT did a '62 as an annual kit back in the '60s. It came as a 3-n-1 (stock, custom, stake). It was a long Fleetside 1/2 ton, and came with trailer and some versions had a go-kart included. Unfortunatly, it has been out of production since the mid '60s, and originals are very expensive. There's no sign of re-release either. You might check out Rocketfin Model Resources (don't recall exact website name), there are several dealers that buy/sell old models and collections of built kits. I have dealt with Freds Model World, he is very fair on pricing. You might be able to find one there. I managed to get a '68 and '69 Chevy trucks and the bed from a '60-'62 from there.

Guy on ebay doesn't have the 54 in a truck, just the 54 in the suburban / panel. Wonder if I could MORPH the grill onto an earlier... Hmmmmmm. Bet I can with a dremel, bud-lite and some jb-weld!
