I was just curious, can anybody tell me the origin of the word Chevrolet? I have two books on old chevy trucks that discuss history but give no clue.

I found this for you."Chevrolet Motor Company of Michigan is incorporated in November of 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, William Little and Edwin Cambell, William Durant's son-in-law. Headquarters are in Detroit".

Good sites. I'm most surprised he was born in Switzerland on Christmas 1878 and drove a Buick in the first Indy 500 in 1911.

A common misconception is that the first Chevrolet was designed by Louis Chevrolet, the famous race car driver. He designed a luxury auto that would be too expensive to build to compete with Ford. Billy Durant wanted to compete with Ford so Chevrolet's designs never saw production. This led to Chevrolet's eventual departure but he couldn't take his name with him. Durant owned it.

Why don't you put a Subject name on this thread, this a very interesting subject, and I'm sure there are a lot of people that are going to give it a pass with a heading such as, >>", I almost did, but I'm the curious type, so I just had to see what that meant.

Well, I seemed to have a glitch and it posted before I pushed "add reply" and before I titled it. The title was going to be "Chevrolet origin?"

I expected all Bolters would Know about Louis.
He has quite a good early racing history. In the record books.

Most likely, this:

"Chevrier (one who took care of goats)"?

But, the Chevrier Family Crest (does not look like a bow tie)

The bowtie was actually a repetitive pattern on wallpaper. Durant liked it, so he decided to use it. He found it on a hotel wall in Paris.
