Sometimes if I shift slowly it won't grind or the grinding won't be as severe. What is the fix for this problem? Should I rebuild the transmission while trying to fix the problem?

My wife has a 50 1/2 ton that her grandfather gave her 15 years ago, and hadn't ran in about as long. When I got it going, it had the same problem, only it was also making a noise in first. I took it to Gale here in Joplin, and he told me that the trans was completely worn out. I ended up getting another one for around $125.00 Solved the problem. Yours may need rebuilt, but it wouldn't hurt to have someone take a look at it.

You might get away with a synchronizer and a parts kit, needle bearings, gaskets, etc., but be ready to do a replacement if it's got many miles on it. The Furds used to tear up, and the Chevvies would wear out!

to the syncro. These arn,t real hard to work on
if you follow the book. My partner has some used
ones if you want to go that way.
You can put 140 gear lube in there would help
some.
