I'm buying a 1946 Chevy Truck that was in a magazine called “Pickups and Panel Trucks” Magazine.

The truck was painted by the original owner and he sold the truck after a divorce and moved away. The colors are unusual and I like them. We think one of them is 1994 Ford Light Santa Fe, but we’re not sure.

The problem is the second owner had a copy of the magazine the truck was in, but got a divorce and he cannot find the magazine, but knows the colors where listed in the magazine. I have talked to PPG and DuPont and they say you can scan the colors, but it’s not always accurate.

I have some feelers out for the original owner. His name is Jim Baird and lived in La Grange, TX when he owned the truck. I have asked around in La Grange, and know someone remembers Jim or the truck, but as of today have found no one. I called the sheriff, police, a lawyer and my best hope is the post office. Searching Google or Yahoo comes up with over 100 Jim Baird's, and if I have to, I will call them all, but would prefer not to.

HELP!

The magazine that you are looking for is most likely an issue of "Pickups 'n Panels In Print" (PPIP), published by the National Chevy/GMC Truck Association from about 1989 to 1998 (10 issues a year, usually).

I have about 4 years of issue and could find no article on a 1946 Chevrolet truck owned by a Jim Baird.

hmmmmm,,both previous owners got a divorce?
maybe oughta think twice before buying the truck?
HA, just kiddin, those color scanner machines are usually pretty accurate,if the operator will take the time to do it right.

I have about the last 10 years of PnP magazine in storage and have been waiting for an excuse to get them from storage. If you pm or email a pic of the truck I can get the magazines from storage and take a look for you sometime in the next few days. jerry

My 52 stepside appeared in PNP when the restoration was in progress...I put all My copies in
an album...if You know the month/year, that would help a bunch...I am a old geezer, and I have learned not to take a chance on buying green bananas anymore. Time is of essence... BB

I may be closer to finding the answer. I have had a mesage sent that they have found the article in a PnP magazine dated Jan 1995. I hope someone can either give ma a copy with my truck or at least make a legible scan!

I need the paint colors used and would like to know the paint shops name in Austin, TX.

Dan, I worked with a Craig Baird that lives in Nolanville, TX just a few miles away and he had relatives that lived in Saldo and Georgetown it may a brother or something. I'll try to get in contact with him for you and find out. Send me an IM with contact info so I can pass it on.

I still haven't found the original owner, but I still have hopes. The info given has been a real help and THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR THE HELP!!!
