Subject is '61 Apache 10. The goal to is to have a Sanden A/C compressor to operate the Cool Pak underdash unit, keep the alternator conversion already done, and add a power steering pump, in conjunction with a REZ kit conversion. I have Vintage Air bracket to mount alt, and compressor on the driver side of engine. The P/S pump needs to go on that side as well. The ideal thought is to find a way to mount the compressor on the passenger side of engine. Anybody have any experience with this? Ideas for fabing a bracket for the compressor onto the pass side?, or fitting the P/S pump onto the driver side with the alt and compressor? Thanks, Tony

I run my alternator on the passenger side of my 261. I use a little NASCAR alternator and it fits very nicely. To do it, I had to go to a double harmonic balancer pulley and a double water pump pulley.
I have seen a power steering unit mounted below the A/C compressor, but the mount would most likely have to be made. It ends up inside the frame rail. The A/C was in the generator position and the alternator above it. Some one might offer a mount for the power steering in that position, but I'm not sure. The guy that has the one I know of had it made. He uses a double balancer pulley to run the power steering. The rest of the set up is done the way you usually see it done. On your truck, there is probably enough room to do that.

Hey 6, where did you find your 2 sheave balancer? I may add AC or PS to my truck and I want to do it that way.
A double pulley is not really necessary on the water pump if you use a shorty belt.

A 2 groove pulley damper was used on late 50's cars with a 235 and AC and power steering or something like that.A damper from a 230-292 engine as well as the small block V-8 works on a 235/261 from what guys tell me.Not that these balancers may have the correct dampening for the older 6's and the damper snout may need a reduction in length. And there's limited room like the man says.

The truck has a two groove damper already, maybe I lucked out there. The vintage air backet is set up to utilise a two groove compressor with the front groove running off of the rear groove on the damper, the rear groove on the compressor to run a short belt to the alternator above it. So the front groove on damper can run P/S pump. Any clues where I might find a pic of the car setup with P/S? Thanks to all for your help so far, it's starting to make sense.

4onthe Floor; I was lucky on the two groove harmonic balancer. Went to the wrecking yard about six months ago and walked right up to a 57 Chevy car with the front sheet metal pulled off of it and there it was. Pulled it off in about one minute. Some things are meant to be.
It has a small wear groove where it goes into the timing cover seal. Should be OK. I think somebody makes a kit to repair the groove caused by the seal.
Yachtcare; I would say you are lucky to have one. They are not too easy to find. I've been looking for a second (better) one and have not found one.
I have no idea as to where to send you on a power steering setup picture. Maybe some of the 55-56-57 guys know. Also, check some of the repo guys that do repops for 57-62 trucks. Two other places to ask questions are Jim Carter and Obsolete Chevrolet in Nashville, GA.
Good luck!

Use a repair sleeve for the SBC. It works fine and is cheaper than the sleeve called-out in the parts book.
