I know the cross members are different but will all the rivet holes match up to where I can put a Chevy engine into a GMC frame. Thanks | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | The frame is identical between the Chevy and the GMC. There should not be any reason to change the crossmember out just to install the Chevy engine. You do not identify what size engine you are using but if the motor mounts do not line up with the existing holes it only takes a drill to add the ones you need. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | Mule The 55-59 chevy crossmembers are all the same. 55-57 gmc and 58-9 gmc xmembers are a little different. For the cleanest instalation... ie installing a 235 in there... it is best to use the crossmember as stated.
Why would you want to put an inferior engine back in there? The GMCs had much better engines then the chevies.
Sorry... got side tracked. All the rivot holes will line up for the different crossmembers. It isn't an ez job to just swap them out. The frame has a tendency to spread a little without the crossmember in it. | | |
