just wondering if
higher compression would lower top MPG a at 55-65 MPH in my brothers 67 3/4 ton chevy whith 283

the strange thing is is that this truck has
4.56-1 gears a turbo400 and 283 was this stock?
it will only do 60 mph and get poor milage.
he plans to swap to 3.73-1
swap the large Holly carb
for somthing whith better milage
and mabe juice up the engine a littel
if possible

All things being equal higher compression should provide better mileage

Go to mortec.com to ID the engine. The 4.56 gears are eating gas. Stock carb would have been a Rochester Q-jet on spreadbore iron intake.
