Does anyone know where to find the correct LH 47-51 outside mirror arm. I am installing both RH & LH mirrors. All the catalogs I have are selling the generic ones that are really for 52 & up. When used with both mirrors, it just does not work. My truck looks drunk!

I know that the passenger side"right side" takes a special arm.It is bent different so you can see it.You actually view it through the passenger side windshield.Most of the parts suppliers carry them.Click on links at the top of the page,then click on parts at the left.

I know. I have that "special" arm and it looks fine. Because it is correct, the arm they are selling for the LH does not work. I know what it is suppose to look like but it seems no one is repopping it and I have not been able to locate a used one.

as mentioned by bowtietim, you do look through the passenger windshield to view traffic in that mirror. i've put a parabolic mirror (napa carried it and it looks exactly like the original stock mirror) and it really helps "see" the traffic on that side of the truck. if you are going for originality, use the flat mirror.

as far as i know, all the original passenger mirrors were viewed through the windshield, not the door window.

p.j. does that parabolic mirror bolt on like the original round one or is it just attached to the existing mirror?

Chevs of the 40s carries that item. Or at least they used to, according to the catalog I have from them.
I found an original at a swap meet, but it took some hunting.

classic parts, formerly chevy duty, also has them in both painted and chrome.

Apparently, Chevy Duty does not have the correct arm in either chrome or painted (even though they list one).

Kay has checked with several vendors and none have a correct style chromed arm for his year. However, he has found a vendor (he hopes) that has the correct style arm, painted.

When I called Chevy of the 40s, they got their mirror arm out to check for me and it had the curve that makes it 52 & up. I talked with the folks at Golden State (got the info from Tim) and they say theirs is chrome and is the correct straight arm. I have orderd it and will let you know if it is right when it gets here. Thanks for all the suggestions.

The new arm from Golden State Parts arrived today. I have already installed it and it is right! What a difference in the way it looks now. Thanks to all for your help.

sorry about not responding sooner to your question. haven't been back to this post lately.

yeah, it bolted right up with the same single post out the back of the mirror like the originals. it's not exactly like the original r.h. mirror as far as the profile of the metal backer but only the anal retentive notice and i absolutely love the visibility it affords that side of the truck. i have grain side boards on the bed plus it's a three window, so it has some blind spots which the parabolic mirror eliminates. i think the only modification i had to do was drill out the hole in the new passenger arm to accommodate the "odd" bolt size (probably metric). i could send you a pic if you want. just let me know...
