A Chevy 3100 is negative ground.G.M.C in that year was Poditive ground.

Info, just for fun. I changed the battery in my 64 f**d in the dark. I got it backward and it worked just fine. I never knew it till thet battery went bad and I had to buy another new one.Put that one in right and it still worked fine.

Fla'daBoy you are right. Now that I think about it I remember the wipers went flop-flip instead of flip-flop.

Your battery did not go bad it was just begining to charge backwards.Batteries can be charged in either direction.
