I have a 1951 3/4 ton with 8 lugs that has the 4:10/1 gear ratio (I think) it is.

I also have a 1956 1/2 ton rear axle and front spindles.

Now the Questions, ...

1) What is the gear ratio in the 1956 axle?

2) Can I unbolt and replace the axle with the other without a major operation, and will the front spindles swap out the same?

I am sure someone out there has either done something simular, or given it a try.

Thanks in advance.

Your ratio is probably 4.56

'56 Axle should be 3.90

The rear axle will need the perches (on the axle itself) relocated.

You would have to swap in the entire front axle. I read here on SBP that the flat mounting plates are in the wrong spot. Again, more modification.

Good Luck.

Does not sound like a good swap to me.
For the effort involved I would go newer

I have a '52 3600.
I also have a '55 1/2 ton rear. Believe it
or not, the spring perch spacing on the 1/2 ton
rear is almost identical to the spacing on the
stock 3/4 ton rear. I don't know if it would be the same on yours or not. However, the inclination of the 1/2 perches looked like it
would throw off the pinion angle of the 3/4 ton drive line.
Also, if you got a hold of some AD half ton spindles, I believe they could be installed on the 3/4 ton axle by reaming the bushings.

When I got the rear end it came with the 1/2 ton springs and the front springs also, but I don't recall getting the front axle.
