However, I didn't see anywhere in those past postings any resolution to the dilemma of wanting to use your truck like a TRUCK. I do not have a garage to store it in, and I would like to occasionally be able to use it for hauling stuff for home imporvement like lumber, decorative bark, etc. I'm usually good for four or five trips a year like this, but it sounds like this would be considered "commercial" use of the vehicle  . So, anybody got advice for how to insure my soon to be restored truck for $15,000, because that's what it's minimum value will be once I've finished it later this year, and still use it for occasional hauling.

What you describe is "occasional personal use" of your truck. Commercial use is regular use for earning income. Day-to-day use means your primary transportation to and from your place of employment.
Hagerty should be willing to insure your truck. Have you tried their on-line application (for an estimate)?
They provide full-value agreed-upon replacement coverage, including collision and comprehensive with no deductibles.

Checked out Haggerty.
"Trucks shouldn't be used for utility-type purposes, such as hauling, trailering, and camping."
At least they don't require storage in a locked garage and do allow for occasional driving to work.
I found a company on the internet called "Sneed Insurance" that doesn't appear to have the usual restrictions on the use of the truck (other than no racing and no hot rodded vehicles). I'll probably call them up later today to verify the terms of the coverage

Essentially I came up with a value I thought it was worth, then one of their adjusters looked at it and agreed that that was what it was worth. My insurance paperwork states that. Most full-service insurance companies will do this. The other way to get it done is with an independant agent. LLoyds of London will insure anything.

When i asked if I would be allowed to haul anything in the bed of the truck even on a very infrequent basis (3 or four times a year). I was told that I was not allowed to ever haul or tow anything under their policy. That in essence, "the truck would become a car." The lady that answered my call with Sneed Insurance wasn't certain and transfered me to somebody who wasn't in at the time  . I left a message and hope to hear back from them. Their website mentions no such restrictions anywhere. Our regular insurance coverage, which the truck is under now, is not for an agreed value (this was fine when the truck was in poor to fair condition). Now that I am nearly done with it, I want it insured for its true value. To do this i could get collector car insurance through our current insurrance company (GMAC), but the restrictions include no hauling, no towing, etc. If I have to go this route, I might as well use Haggerty, as they are cheaper.

They just asked me for polaroids of the vehicle,as stock as possible,no custom wheels, custom paint,etc... i guess "stock looking" is what im tryin to say. sorry, dont have their phone# handy. good luck. | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 234 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 234 | Thanks for the responses. I couldn't find a listing using Google for a Breuer & Kirkpatrick Insurance or variations on that title or under Albany, CA Insurance. I received an email reply from Sneed insurance stating This is a collectors program. We can not write a show vehicle that hauls anything. It would not meet our company guidelines. Kind regards, Judy Latham Sneed Insurance Ph.800.619.7827 *130 Fax. 901.372.4752 www.sneedinsurance.com Since 1957 P.S.*No Mileage Limits *No Usage Restrictions *No racing. Not for principal transportation I particulalrly liked the P.S. "No Usage Restrictions" at the bottom of an e-mail that told me the vehicle could not be used for occasional hauling. :p I guess my only option is to just go ahead and use the truck as I would anyway and hope that I don't get into an accident bringing that sheet of plywood and 12, 2x4's home from the lumber yard. I don't understand what the deal is with hauling anyway   . How would having a few articles in the bed of the truck make it more likely to get into a wreck!? It's not like the insurance would have to pay for a new bed if I scratched it up anyway (I will be using a removable rubber bed liner, of course to prevent this from happening whenever I haul anything). Guess that's the end of my rant.
